The picture below shows a home sewer systems using a septic tank. Most homes are now directly hooked up to the city sewer. Older properties still use septic tanks along with cabins. All septic tanks are different sizes. Depending on the size of the tank that will determine how often the tank will need to be specially pumped out and cleaned. Being that it’s hard to move a sewer line, homes that have had septic tanks and have had problems just run a solid pipe through the system that directly taps into the city sewer line.
